About Us
Rescue Angels, Inc. is a public non-profit, registered 501(c)(3) charity created to rescue, rehabilitate and find permanent homes for abandoned or homeless dogs that are on the verge of being euthanized. We believe that all dogs deserve to live happy and healthy lives, so we work toward finding ours loving, responsible homes where they will have a nurturing environment for the rest of their lives. Because we are not a shelter, we rely solely on our caring, responsible foster homes, volunteers and donations to help us accomplish our longer-term goal of finding the best permanent home for each of our dogs. Come visit us at any of our weekly adoption events, and you may just find the pet you were missing.
"I think dogs are the most amazing creatures; they give unconditional love. For me they are the role model for being alive." – Gilda Radner
Kristina Hess - Founder / Executive Director
Kristina is the adoptive mommy of Lexi, a tri-colored Papillon, Xena, a German Shepherd and Leo, Shadow & Siren, various breeds of felines, and the co-founder of Rescue Angels. In 2007, after graduating in 3 years from the University of Massachusetts-Boston with a double-major in Theatre and Classical Studies, opportunities in modeling/dance and theatre brought Kristina to Washington, D.C., February of 2008. Her passion for animals started at a very young age when she described her home as her own personal "petting zoo." She grew up with horses, cats, dogs, birds, fish, lizards, etc. - and her love for animals never faded. The idea of starting a rescue organization was born by Oprah's Puppy Mills show. Once she relocated from Boston to D.C., Kristina decided to take on this special mission herself. Through communications with several shelters around the country, she realized the cold truth about the high euthanasia rate and began working with shelters in North Carolina. Once in contact with them, she jumped right in and pulled a dog in hopes of finding him a home. And thus, Rescue Angels was born! |
