Why Foster with Rescue Angels?
We pride ourselves in having a close-knit fostering network where everyone helps each other out and makes friends in the process. Because we are a small organization, we attend events together, converse through phone and email regularly and work together to save the lives of many dogs. We not only work together, but share the experience together. We would love for you to join our family!
If you have always wanted to do something about the horrific kill rate at common shelters, but have not felt you were ready for a dog full time, fostering presents an opportunity to save lives on an ongoing basis while getting experience with different breeds and ages.
Please feel free to come meet some of us at any adoption event! We would love to chat with you about the Fostering Network!

Commitment
Emotional: It takes a very special person to open their hearts to one of these rescue dogs. To love and nurture them for a period of time, and then give them up when their new permanent home is found is something that is not easy.
Financial: Rescue Angels will continue to provide for the dog's expenses, including medical, food, grooming and supplies. Please ask us for things you feel you need for the dog and we will do our best to provide it if it is within our budget.
Time: We do ask our fosters for a minimum two-week time period. Although we cannot put a time frame on the length of time we would like to have you foster, we do ask that you prepare for at least 2 weeks. Sometimes, they can be placed in a few days, but other times, it can be longer. We would rather steer away from those who are looking for a short-term commitment because we cannot afford to have the dog come back to us after the two weeks is up if they have not been placed. We rely solely on our fosters and only pull dogs if we have a home to place them in temporarily. Please understand this is a commitment – there have been instances where a dog was placed in a different home every week or so because the fosters did not truly comprehend what it meant to care for a dog. We do not want this to happen again so please, think this through and make your decision before applying to foster. You can always help us find homes by networking yourself, posting them on Facebook, walking them with "Adopt Me" Bandanas that we can provide you, bringing them to dog parks, etc. The more exposure they get the better chance of someone to fall for them! :)
*Once you have decided that this opportunity is something for you, please contact us to fill out a Foster Application and bring it to one of our weekly events if that location holds them.*

Once we have received your application
Home Check: As with our adoption process, we also do a home check. If it is a house, we look for a safe environment such as a possible fenced yard free of debris and harmful areas. If you live in an apartment, please remember many dogs, and not just small ones, do very well in an apartment (especially puppies). However, time does become a factor for apartment dwellers and fostering should only be considered if your schedule allows enough time to take the dog out on a regular schedule. Also, if you do not own your home, we do ask for your landlord's approval for fostering and having a dog live in your home.
Emotional Support & Socialization: We ask that you give your foster the emotional support necessary to help them transition through this phase. Often this involves helping to socialize them, making them feel more secure and good about themselves. In short, we ask that your foster becomes part of your family. The best way to socialize your foster is to bring them to a dog park and keep them around the family so that they become used to both people and other animals as well.
Personality Observations/Medical Issues: Help us update your foster dog's bio with information such as: Are they housebroken? OK with cats? Likes other dogs or prefers to be an only dog? The more we get to know about the rescue through the observations of the foster parent, the better the chance of finding a successful forever home.
Help, I've fallen in love! Fosters have the "first right of refusal." We would never accept an application for a dog who is fostered without first discussing the placement with their foster. We do ask, however, that if you have fallen in love with your foster that you let us know as soon as possible so that we do not have them listed and taking the place of other dogs on our site.
