For Our Fosters
After you have completed the Foster Application and been accepted as a Rescue Angels Foster Parent, we do ask you to give us a few business days to respond with your first Foster Dog. We appreciate your desire to help us by fostering a dog and will get back to you as soon as possible.
There are a few things we ask our fosters to understand:
Please give your dog at least two or three days to settle in to your home. Remember that these dogs have been living in a small kennel, so a home is a big adjustment. They may not sleep through the night at first, they may or may not be housetrained, and there may be jealously issues between your new foster and your dog.
Especially with puppies, we do want the foster aware that they may cry. We have found that if you are comfortable with having either the crate in your room or allowing them to sleep on your bed, this tones down this issue. In our experience, with love and patience, these potential problems can be resolved. However, if you need to return your foster, we will take them back at any time.
As a Rescue Angels Foster you agree to the following:
The adoption events are going to be held once per month for the DC Location at the
Potomac Yard Banfield/Petsmart in Alexandria, Virginia. We ask that you deliver and pick up on time to the location.
Rescue Angels must approve all adoption applications, so please do not promise anyone that they can adopt your foster. Of course we are happy to receive adoption referrals and your recommendations. If you are considering adopting your foster yourself, we would discuss any serious applications with you before placing the dog in another home.
Your foster must be kept on leash at all times when in an unfenced or unenclosed area – even when hiking, or just walking from your house to the car. All rescues are prone to being escape artists, especially in a new environment or when left alone. They may bolt out of an open front door, so please be aware and be careful.
Rescue Angels will be responsible for any expenses that may occur while the dog is in your care. If a veterinary visit is necessary, we prefer to use one of our vets (unless there is an emergency). We will provide food, a crate, and other items as needed.
We ask that you fill out a foster experience form with any information you can provide on your fosters behavior, likes/dislikes, etc. so the adopting family knows a little about the dog when they take it home!
Much of this is explained in the Fostering Contract. Please ask for a copy upon house-check so that you may have all of the expectations and information handy. Thank you!
